Who qualifies for VAT relief?

VAT relief applies to individuals who meet the following criteria. We confirm your band with you before you decide, so there's never any guesswork on the day.

0% VAT · long-term illness or disability

You may qualify for 0% VAT if you have:

• A physical or mental impairment that significantly affects daily life (e.g. blindness, stroke, Parkinson's, dementia) • A long-term illness recognised by medical professionals (e.g. arthritis, diabetes, COPD, ME) • A terminal illness Please note: if you're over 60 but otherwise in good health, or your condition is only temporary (such as a broken bone), you won't be eligible for VAT relief at 0%, though the 60-or-over reduced rate below still might apply. 5% VAT · aged 60 or over

If you're 60 or older, you can benefit from a reduced VAT rate of 5%, regardless of health. No declaration or proof of condition is needed for this rate, only your age.

At this rate, fitted Door £1,564.50 · Frame £1,040
20% VAT · standard rate

If you are under 60 and do not meet the criteria above, the standard VAT rate of 20% applies. If a household member is chronically sick or disabled, the zero rate may still apply to work carried out on their behalf, so mention it when we call.

Your questions, answered plainly

Who qualifies for 0% VAT relief?

Anyone chronically sick or disabled: a physical or mental impairment that significantly affects daily life, a long-term illness recognised by medical professionals, or a terminal illness. Being over 60 but otherwise in good health, or a temporary condition such as a broken bone, does not qualify for the 0% rate.

I am 60 or over but not disabled. What rate applies?

The reduced rate of 5% applies to anyone aged 60 or over, regardless of health, so this one needs no medical declaration.

Do I need to prove my condition with a doctor's letter?

No. You self-certify by signing a short, standard HMRC eligibility declaration on the day of fitting. No doctor's letter or supporting paperwork is required, and we bring the form.

Can I claim VAT relief on behalf of a parent or partner?

Yes. The declaration is signed by or on behalf of the person the work is for, so if you're booking and paying for a parent or partner, they are the one who needs to meet the criteria, not you.

What if I am not sure which band I am in?

Tell us your situation when you book your free survey and we will confirm your band before you decide anything, with no obligation.
